WATERSIDE AT ROYAL MALEWANE
Thornybush Game Reserve | South Africa
From the moment we arrived at Waterside, it felt as though we were floating above the landscape, with an undeniable sense of opulence in the air. Fever trees glow golden in the afternoon light, and inside, an eclectic mix of bold prints, rich textures, and jewel-toned hues create an atmosphere that feels both glamorous and deeply inviting. Leopard-print sofas, vibrant art, and luxurious furnishings make every corner a visual delight, and there are countless beautiful spots to relax in - each one offering a new perspective of the wilderness beyond.
Food at Waterside is an experience in itself. Mornings begin with an abundant spread - great plates of pastries, fresh fruits, and charcuterie arrive before you even order from the main menu. Every meal is a feast, but one of the most unforgettable was the surprise braai night in the bush. We dined under a sky full of stars, with lanterns glowing around an ancient baobab tree, and the calls of the wilderness all around. It felt like a scene from a dream - completely surreal and utterly magical.
Game drives with ranger Andre and tracker Chris were just as exceptional. Their deep knowledge of the bush brought everything to life, from tracking leopards to pointing out the incredible birdlife that we, as beginner birders, so appreciated. Their passion was contagious, and every drive felt like a discovery. But beyond their expertise, what stood out most was their energy - warm, engaging, and full of humor, making each outing feel like an adventure with old friends.
The entire team at Waterside made the experience even more special. Floor manager Steve felt like family by the end of our stay, his warmth and attention to detail ensuring every moment was unforgettable. And then there was the private sundowner spot - just the two of us, watching the sun dip below the horizon, turning the sky into a beautiful blend of pinks and golds. It was one of those rare, forever memories - the kind you wish you could bottle up and revisit over and over again.
Waterside at Royal Malewane is s a place where luxury and wilderness intertwine in a unique way. It’s where adventure meets indulgence, and every moment feels curated for magic.
